During the period of the Sede Vacante, and in preparation for the beginning of the Conclave to elect the new Holy Father, the 267th Successor of St Peter, the faithful are invited to pray unceasingly for the Cardinals who will take part in the Conclave. We pray that they will be enlightened by the Holy Spirit and thus elect the Holy Father according to God’s will for the Holy Catholic Church and the world.
We suggest that the following prayer be recited for the election of the new Pope
prayer for the election of a new pope
O God, eternal shepherd,
who govern your flock with unfailing care,
grant in your boundless fatherly love
a pastor for your Church
who will please you by his holiness
and to us show watchful care.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever. Amen.
